Infective endocarditis is an inflammation of the inner tissues of the heart caused by an infective organism. A common mnemonic for signs and symptoms is FROM JANE, which stands for fever, Roth’s spots, Osler’s nodes, murmur, Janeway lesions, anemia, nail hemorrhage, and embolism. Other possible signs and symptoms include night sweats, weight loss, and an enlarged spleen. Weight gain is not a known indicator.
